It’s been only a few weeks that the Taiwanese firm released its new flagship phone HTC One to the global markets. When this smartphone was released it was being expected that it will take the mobile vendor to the top of this world. Recent reports suggest that it has seriously taken the manufacturer to the top of the world. All this is done by a British mountaineer, Daniel Hughes, who has used this phone to make video call from the highest peak of Earth.

Daniel Hughes who has reached the summit in an attempt to raise about £1 million for the Comic Relief charity talked to BBC news from Mount Everest using his HTC One smartphone. Hughes project is Everest million where it shares all experiences gained from climbing 8,848 m above the sea level. Apart from the radio and video interviews, he is also sharing a video with YouTube and tweeting about his experiences.

HTC One handset is made up using the aluminium material thus it may not be expected as the sturdiest device present in the market. The British mountaineer has brought two of these handsets with him to the summit. Once he reached the highest point on the earth, he pointed the Cobham Explorer BGAN satellite dish to establish a signal for making video call with the BBC news using the 384 kbps streaming service.

He says at the summit that he does not have any camera man with him; he is all alone there and has a pole, an Inmarsat modem and a HTC One smartphone to accompany him. The mountaineer uses the stylus of his phone as his fingers would not work properly because of the extreme cold temperature there. Also, he is carrying sold state hard drives numbering five as the standard hard drives would not work at higher altitude. At high altitude the air pressure is really high which could cause these standard drives to fail.

Apart from this, Daniel was also the one to set a goal of putting the first Red nose on Mount Everest. This is basically a project taken over for comic relief and it aims at bringing laugh and also changes the life of people at UK and Africa. Those interested to help out Hughes’ should check out his JustGiving page through which he is hoping to make about £1 million from about 1 million people.
